A Quick Guide to a Quality Getaway.
For a weekend without any holiday or leave approved in the office, make no mistake. This blog should have been titled “Why Cebu is the Top Destination for a Holiday” but naaah. Sugbu (Cebu’s old name) or Zubu (its old Spanish name) has the best white beaches in the Philippines which is just a 30-minute or an hour drive away from the city minus its currently worsening traffic. Growing up and having toured it many times, I could say it has a lot of variety, and has dozens to offer travel junkies. For a perfect mix of urban and sun, there’s no place or region more accessible than Bucebs (Cebu). It has Manila’s hyped atmosphere, hip cafés, and just a few steps away a blissful vacation awaits you in its turquoise waters.
You have to plan ahead. Planning includes research so that you can create a short list of awesome places narrowing it down to the ones that matches to each of you and your friends’ personalities – museums, historic spots, or a famous restaurant? Everyone knows that flights are cheaper if booked in advance. A Manila to Cebu flight would not cost much. Go! Book it!
What is your vacation goal? If set only for one weekend including your fly-in and out, schedule is sorta cramped. So make it a limitless time in a luxury resort where you can bask under the sun or swim with some silver fish.
We chose the Mövenpick Cebu Resort and Spa to spend the weekend in. Why? Not only because the place is instagrammable or post-worthy, but the place gives you an intimate small pool area and beach shore so you can just have a relaxing bonding time without a lot of land area to cover (esp for photos). We heard that the service is good, and other top reasons are the yummy buffet and the experience of an Ibiza Club sunset while having drinks. It is a plus if you go for the extreme water sports!
Travel lighter than air. It has always been a challenge for most people that I know, but the more you travel, you kind of get to master the art. Mixing and matching works. Buying atomizers. Light weight material VS denim. And if it is a beach weekend? No shoes! That helps a bit.
A quality getaway means you want to escape the harsh realities of work and have very good well-remembered conversations with your circle. The only gadgets we brought while having fun are our cameras. It is best to avoid wi-fi and have a ready-to-splash energy. Learn to disconnect from busy.
Bask with a good book. After a long flight or a dreadful bus ride with traffic, what could be more therapeutic? It is an automatic sleeping pill. Add halo-halo to that.

To sum it all up, a short but sweet week-ender works best with a well-planned itinerary. A hassle-free beach schedule is one you should not miss out on especially in Cebu! If you know you could not cover much with your time, maximize it by focusing it on one main feature the city has to offer. This was the best birthday celebration ever!
