If there is one thing I dont regret doing, it is checking in a riad. After long hours of waiting for our flight yesterday, our bodies needed this much needed relaxation. I just cannot believe I am finally in Marrakech, I kept repeating this! People will laugh if they know why I want to go here.

Strangely enough, my whole system felt a bit inept to travel internationally. Though, it did not take long for me to gather those travel mode instincts. I have to thank my Instagram contacts for giving me tips such as buying a Moroccan sim card and have my money changed once arrived in Marrakech Airport.
The city greeted me with pinkish buildings and if Im not mistaken lots of palm trees. Afterwards, we entered a lovely oasis – the riad. Everything felt so exclusive and beautiful. As expected, we took a lot of photos everywhere!!! At this age now I try to be swift in shooting and posing (I really try). Splash to the pool on a golden hour right after!

We capped the night off with complementary wine from the riad…

I did not expect it to be very windy during the tour, twelve degrees out. We had amlou (?) Moroccan Nutella made from argan oil.
Arabic and French were the major languages in Marrakech. It was lovely to learn and speak a little bit of Arabic.

On tour, the guide explained why they had to pour tea many times on the cup – to form bubbles! These bubbles prevent dust entering the tea. This is because they live in the desert, and they want to enjoy their drink without the sand.
We also learned that Arabians lived in the city while Jewish lived in the desert and mountains.

Arriving in the Riad, there is this framed photo of a man. And I am that ignorant to ask:
“Is he the owner?”
“No, he’s the king.”
It’s so funny that I even forgot that we were in “the kingdom of light” ruled by a king. Me and my bloopers 😅
That night, we explored without itinerary, and ate buffet style at Kui-zin. It’s nice to have a taste of Moroccan food.

We are on our way to Essaouira (which is a place hard to spell as I am writing this lol). It is a port city, and I think I am dressed correctly for it. However, Marrakech weather doesnt agree? Oh well, I wear beach ootd for the beach – appropriate.

Reflecting on yesterday’s Marrakech walking tour, there were two poignant moments I felt so immersed in the place, people and culture. One is a silent sit down in one of the rooms in Madrasa. It used to be a Quoran school with beautiful intricate floor and wall designs (typical of Morocco). We spent about 20 minutes there, almost silent, but never completely quiet. With my mouth always open. The second moment was a dinner and drinks at Cafe Glacier rooftop overlooking a Koutobia sunset. It was a perfect setting to see the locals’ reaction to winning their slot to Fifa 2022 World Cup semi-finals against Spain. It just felt very festive and celebratory.

Nothing related, but I saw someone wearing a Memento Mori tattoo during this trip – meaning “remembering death”. My interpretation is that we need to remind ourselves to make the most of this life!
